Ask Someone: How Do You Remember 1981?

Pretty much the same as today, right? I mean, we still drove cars and worked in office buildings and factories, right?

Until you look a little closer.

Yeah, 1981 was the same as today, except for cellphones. And computers. And email. And widespread use of fax machines. And websites. And social media. And mobile apps. And virtual worlds. And blogs. And video. And ongoing, 24/7 conversation amongst a global community. And–

–and you realize 1981 was nothing like today.

"So what’s the point," you ask? "We’re living in 2009."

The point is the amazing progress we’ve seen in 28 years. Take a look at this video: an early look at the future of newspapers on your computer. I love the caption below the interviewees name: Owns Home Computer.

Wow.

Now, look forward to 2023. Because change is accelerating. In the next 14 years, we can be looking at the same amount of change.

What will today’s predictions get so amazingly wrong?
