Blowing Up The Last Social Myths

Followers of this blog know we’ve long been dedicated to blowing up social media and social networking myths. You know, "Well, it’s just for kids/only for people who don’t get out enough/not for our audience/can’t compare to conventional media/isn’t ready for prime time."

This, despite social media driving as much traffic to websites as search engines. This, despite the fact that 5 of the top 10 global sites are social media sites. This, despite the fact that almost half the moms in the US are on MySpace alone.

Still not enough to have you take social media seriously? Well, here’s a new data point:

Social networks are bigger than email.

I’ll repeat that: Social networks are BIGGER THAN EMAIL.

Yes, EMAIL.

Don’t believe us? Well, how about Nielsen?

Have you spent money on email campaigns? Do you consider them strategic?

Then one thing should be abundantly clear: it’s time to pay attention to social media. And not from the POV of a single widget, and not from the POV of your conventional agency, but from the POV of a long-term, strategic engagement with tactics specific to social media.

Want to talk? We’re listening.
